Chandra Temperature Profiles for a Sample of Nearby Relaxed Galaxy Clusters

چکیده
We present Chandra gas temperature profiles at large radii for a sample of 11 nearby, relaxed galaxy clusters and groups, which includes A133, A262, A383, A478, A907, A1413, A1795, A1991, A2390, MKW4, and USGC S152. The sample covers a range of average temperatures from 1 to 10 keV. The clusters are selected from the archive or observed by us to have sufficient exposures and off-center area coverage to enable accurate background subtraction and reach the temperature accuracy of better than 20–30% at least to r = 0.4−0.5rvir, and for the three best clusters, to 0.6−0.7rvir. For all clusters, we find cool gas in the cores, outside of which the temperature reaches a peak at r ∼ 0.15rvir and then declines to ∼ 0.5 of its peak value at r ≃ 0.5rvir. When the profiles are scaled by the cluster average temperature (excluding cool cores) and the estimated virial radius, they show large scatter at small radii, but remarkable similarity at r > 0.1−0.2rvir for all but one cluster (A2390). Our results are in good agreement with previous measurements from ASCA by Markevitch et al. and from Beppo-SAX by DeGrandi & Molendi. Four clusters have recent XMM-Newton temperature profiles, two of which agree with our results, and we discuss reasons for disagreement for the other two. The overall shape of temperature profiles at large radii is reproduced in recent cosmological simulations. Subject headings: clusters: general

Effects of Galaxy Formation on Thermodynamics of the Intracluster Medium
We present detailed comparisons of the intracluster medium (ICM) in cosmological Eulerian cluster simulations with deep Chandra observations of nearby relaxed clusters. To assess the impact of galaxy formation, we compare two sets of simulations, one performed in the non-radiative regime and another with radiative cooling and several physical processes critical to various aspects of galaxy form...
متن کاملThe structural and scaling properties of nearby galaxy clusters - II . The M – T relation
Using a sample of ten nearby (z ∼ < 0.15), relaxed galaxy clusters in the temperature range [2 − 9] keV, we have investigated the scaling relation between the mass at various density contrasts (δ = 2500, 1000, 500, 200) and the cluster temperature. The masses are derived from NFW-type model fits to mass profiles, obtained under the hydrostatic assumption using precise measurements, with XMM-New...

We present the analysis of the temperature and metallicity profiles of 12 galaxy clusters in the redshift range 0.1–0.3 selected from the Chandra archive with at least ∼ 20, 000 net ACIS counts and kT > 6 keV. We divide the sample between 7 Cooling-Core (CC) and 5 Non-Cooling-Core (NCC) clusters according to their central cooling time. We find that single power-laws can describe properly both t...
متن کاملThe structural and scaling properties of nearby galaxy clusters : I - The universal mass profile
We present the integrated mass profiles for a sample of ten nearby (z 0.15), relaxed galaxy clusters, covering a temperature range of [2 − 9] keV, observed with XMM-Newton. The mass profiles were derived from the observed gas density and temperature profiles under the hypothesis of spherical symmetry and hydrostatic equilibrium. All ten mass profiles are well described by an NFW-type profile ov...
متن کاملGravitating mass profiles of nearby galaxy clusters and relations with X-ray gas temperature, luminosity and mass
We consider a sample of 22 nearby clusters of galaxies observed with the Medium Energy Concentrator Spectrometer (MECS) on board of BeppoSAX . They cover the range in gas temperature between 3 and 10 keV, with bolometric Xray luminosity between 2× 10 erg s−1 and 6× 10 erg s−1. Using the de-projected gas temperature and density profiles resolved in a number of bins between 5 and 7 and obtained f...
